As the newly appointed chairman of the board for DC-CAP, I understand the importance of making today’s students our primary focus; they will be tomorrow’s leaders. Many young people in the D.C. community face financial or academic obstacles, and we want to utilize our resources and services to limit these challenges. For many of these students they will be the first person in their family to attend college, and I can relate to that daunting feeling. We hope to establish more opportunities for every young person to succeed and assist them along the way, even after they enroll in college.
Here is a video that further outlines a few of my thoughts and ambitions for DC-CAP. As an organization, we want to create a culture that college is the automatic next step once a student graduates from high school. We also will strive to get more students involved in STEM fields, where there are plenty of new and emerging career opportunities. As I have noted on my blog, my goal is to build upon Don Graham’s great success and match his passion for D.C. high school students. Education is a powerful tool, and we hope to continue to instill that premise into every young person in our community. I look forward to all of us working collectively toward goal. Thank you.
