Choosing the Right College

Colleges at a Glance

The following section, Colleges-at-a Glance, highlights a variety of colleges traditionally well-attended by D.C. high school graduates. Please note that this list is not all inclusive and there are many, many colleges and universities from which to choose. Colleges-at-a Glance is designed to help you begin to understand the factors and characteristics you should consider when choosing a college. Factors to consider include:

  • Type of college (number of undergraduates and graduates, ethnic breakdown of students, geographic distribution, faculty to student ratio, size of institution, types of degrees that can be earned)
  • Institution Costs
  • Admissions Process (SAT, SAT I, ACT, minimum GPA requirement, high school transcripts, essays, letters of recommendation)
  • Financial Aid Resources
  • Academic Programs/Available Majors
  • Support Programs
  • Student Activities
  • Computer Access
  • Housing
  • Library/Research Facilities
  • Campus Security
  • Athletics

DC-CAP strongly encourages you to visit as many college and university Web sites as possible. Each institution's site will provide you with detailed information on virtually everything you would want or need to know about the school. We also encourage you to contact the college or university directly to receive the school's printed catalogs and to speak to their admissions representatives. Finally, we encourage you, if possible, to visit the colleges or universities of most interest to you.
