There are financial aid resources local to DC, some include:
DC Tuition Assistance Grant (DCTAG)
DC Tuition Assistance Grant (DCTAG) is provided by the Office of the State Superintendent of Education. You can locate this office at 1050 First Street, NE, 5th Floor, Washington, DC 20002 or by calling (202) 727-2824.
Educational Opportunity Center
Educational Opportunity Center which provides adults living in DC with free information, guidance, and counseling on pursuing educational opportunities. The center is located at 1919 M Street NW, Suite 300, Washington, CD 20036. Contact them at (202) 741-4730.
DC College Savings Plan
DC College Savings Plan gives families a simple way to help save for rising college and vocational school costs. For more information visit https://www.dccollegesavings.com/.
Federal Financial
Aid Programs
There are many federal programs that provide financial aid for students, including Pell grants, Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grants (FSEOG), Stafford loans, work study programs, and more.
How to Apply
You can apply for these financial aid opportunities by completing the Free Application for Student Aid (FAFSA) or by calling the U.S. Department of Education at 1-800-4FEDAID.
Private Scholarship Opportunities
The District of Columbia public school system continuously collects information about scholarship opportunities available to DC public and public charter school students. These private scholarship awards are available to students in a wide range of interests and disciplines, such as performing arts, sports, academics, and others. Private scholarships can also be needed and merit-based. Contact your DC CAP advisor or high school scholarship coordinator for more information.
Institutional Financial Aid
Individual colleges and universities may have scholarships and grant opportunities available based on need and merit for students who attend that institution. Other financial aid may be available to students studying a specific major or participating in the school’s athletic program. For more information, contact the institution’s financial aid office.
